Ryan Langmaid: "..this is a five round battle for the SCC Middleweight Championship"

On November 4th we will be giving out the very first SCC belt! Bristol Marunde and Elvis Mutapcic will battle it out for the SCC Middleweight Title, in the co-Main Event of SCC 3.

In this week's blog post, Ryan Langmaid talks about the two title contenders and tells us why he thinks these two fighters deserves a shot for the title.

"For our first title fight in SCC history we will get the privilege of watching Bristol Marunde and Elvis Mutapcic in a five round battle for the SCC Middleweight Championship.

Bristol Marunde is no stranger to big fights. After a four fight stint in the IFL, and one fight in M-1 Global, Bristol got to be in the very first SCC and how fitting is it for him to be in the very first SCC title fight as well. In SCC 1 Marunde took on a very seasoned and oversized Chuck “The Reverend” Grigsby, who is a WEC/M1 vet that fought most of his career at heavyweight and light heavyweight. After a great striking display Bristol walked away with the decision victory. In SCC 2 we invited Bristol back to take on an even more experienced Victor “Superman” Moreno, a veteran of 45 professional fights. Bristol managed to pull off a very nice Kimura in the very first round, and solidifying his spot at the top of the 185 pound division in the SCC. Bristol was also awarded “Submission of the Night” honors and took home a check for $1,000 in bonus money. After two wins against that type of competition, Marunde is very deserving of the title shot! As with the others this fight won’t be a walk in the park. Bristol has been training like a mad man at Throwdown Training Center and is ready to put on a show. He is definitely confident he will be walking away as the SCC Middleweight Champion.

Elvis Mutapcic has been fighting in the smaller Midwest shows for a while, and was a very impressive prospect that we were excited to have in SCC 2. He was ready to take a step up to a big show and fight some proven tough competition. Elvis came in to his fight against highly touted Cezar Ferreira as the underdog in most peoples’ minds. Many were those who thought he was going to be a stepping stone for Cezar, but I had seen Elvis fight several times before and I knew he would put up a great fight. Elvis had more fights and more experience than Ferreira, but Cezar is Vitor Belforts protégé and was marketed by the Belfort camp as “the next big thing” at 185 pounds. Mutapcic didn’t let any of the hype go to his head and came out and knocked Ferreira out cold after only 25 seconds in the very first round (click here to watch it). After such a crazy knockout we awarded Elvis “Knockout of the Night” and he walked away with an extra $1,000 in his pocket. That big win definitely opened everyone’s eyes, and it showed me he’s ready to take the step up and fight for a title. Elvis has been training very hard with New Beginnings MMA under the guidance of SCC and UFC vet Josh “The Dentist” Neer, as well as Victor “Superman” Moreno and Chuck “The Reverend” Grigsby and many other tough Iowa fighters.

These two were both big bonus winners at SCC 2. Will Elvis be able to knock Marunde out, or will Marunde be able to submit Elvis, or will it be an all out brawl? Nobody knows yet, but I guarantee I will be watching closely as this has the makings of an insane fight that could end at any second!
